
BIOGRAPHICAL DATA OF MAX SUNYER
He has born in the Pobla de Massaluca (Terra
Alta), to the 7 years he studied solfeo and violin with his
father. To the 14 years, he settled quickly in Barcelona, being
interested in the electrical guitar. With a totally self-taught
learning, in 1964 it began to act in diverse formation of music
of dance, extending its knowledge with the musicians who he was
finding and some method of jazz of difficult obtaining.
From 1968 to 1972 it studied classic guitar with the teacher
Gracià Tarragó, although without leaving of side the world of
the electrical guitar and the one of the jazz, in which, of
progressive way, he professionally introduces as a composer/creator
and interpreter/estilist.
1974 it enters to be member of group ICEBERG, a quartet that
worked in the search of an own music in a line of fusion native
jazz-rock, achieving the popular success and of the critic. The
group dissolved after recording 5 LP's.
As of 1979 he is dedicated to act in different trio formation,
being the most habitual that one and publishing - to date -, 8 LP's
under his stage name. Parallelly, in 1982 it creates a new
quartet with the name of PEGASUS, always in the way of the search
and expression of a creative, modern and contemporary music. With
PEGASUS and until today has recorded 7 LP's and acted in
prestigious places as the MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL (1984) or the
Carnegie Hall of New York (1985); it has received the Great Premi
of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1985) and the prize " live
Jazz " of the Quàrtica magazine Jazz, Spanish TV and
National Radio of Spain (1986). Also he has acted in GUSMAN
THEATRE of Miami within the framework of the MIAMI FILM FESTIVAL
(1987) with its work: music for the film " Berlin, symphony
of a great city " (Walter Ruttman, 1927), interpreted live.
Also he has been professor in Centre d'Estudis Musicals of the
Barri of the Ribera during 1980 and 1981 and, from 1984,
distribute seminaries and Class Masters in Spain. At the moment
it is working in the preparation of a book with 40 scores (own
and of other Catalan and North American authors) harmonized and
written for guitar.
The 22 of July of the 1989 MAX SUNYER TRIO, with Carles Benavent
and Salvador Fog (battery) acts in the Festival of Jazz of
Vitoria-Gasteiz, sharing program with as prestigious musicians as
Chic Korea Acoustic Band, Stephane Grapelli, Dizzy Gillespie,
George Benson, etc.
The 27 of April of the 1990 NEW ORLEANS JAZZ & HERITAGE
FESTIVAL will see MAX SUNYER TRIO touch the night of the overture.
Tonight it closed the tour made by the Trio by the United States
during the month of April.
